The New Photosynth Demoed at TEDGlobal

Earlier this year at the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh, Blaise Agüera y Arcas gave a sneak peek of the new Photosynth technology. The talk starts with a demonstration of the Photosynth-derived 360 panorama capture experience that shipped for tablets in Windows 8.1, then shows off what you can now see for yourself on http://photosynth.net/preview. Check it out!

And here’s the synth that got the most oohs and aaahs from the crowd in Edinburgh. It was shot on a mobile phone the day before the conference. Secret tip: To see just how curvy the path is, click on the viewer, then type “m” (for map).

Could you please bring this to Android?

Wouldn't it be easier to bui8ld these Photosynths out of a 1080p video instead of a bunch of individual photos? The end result seems to look a lot like just a video with a scrub feature so you can control the walking or play speed, but with much fewer frames… Aside from the full resolution images which is very cool, how is this better or different than a standard 30 second video?
