Comparing Crowds on the National Mall

Our friends at were contracted by CBS to shoot the aerial photography for crowd size estimation of two recent rallies on the National Mall. Photosynth is the ideal way to examine these photos, so without further ado here they are on the same page for comparision:

Beck/Palin rally 8/31/2010. CBS News Commisioned Estimate: 87,000 people

Stewart/Colbert rally 10/30/2010. CBS News Commisioned Estimate: 215,000 people

Comparing these two crowds is difficult because they took place at opposite ends of the Mall. Glenn Beck's Rally to Restore Honor was near the Lincoln Memorial, while the Stewart/Colbert Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear was almost two miles further east near the Capitol building.

Thanks Curt, for sharing these with the Photosynth community. Check out Curt's other great aerial synths.

Looking at these synths calls into question the CBS commisioned estimates.  I guess Beck may have had a larger crowd.
