Tell us about your Rollup 2 (and KB908250) problems

Are you an MCE user experiencing problems since you installed Rollup 2 and/or KB908250?  I want to hear about them.  Comments will be moderated to reduce redundancy, but I'd like to hear about any troubles you might be having.

Here are the ground rules:

  • Reports must be directly related to Rollup 2 or KB908250 (the "Rollup to the Rollup").  This means that the problem must have started occurring right after you installed (or uninstalled) one of those 2 packages.
  • You must be willing to share information about your system, which could include running a diagnostic tool that gathers information on your system.  The information not be shared with anyone else, and will only be used to diagnose and/or fix the issue.  I may share information within my team, but only those parts immediately pertinent to the investigation, and only if needed.  I will inform you if that is required.
  • All comments will be edited by me before being published to the blog.  Any personally-identifying information will be removed from your comment, including names, phone numbers, email addresses, etc.  Also, feedback without a way to get in contact with you via email (mandatory) or phone (optional) will not be published.  I won't ignore any feedback, but its usefulness will be limited if there's no way to get more info about a problem.
  • You will probably not hear back from me; there is no guarantee that I will be able to respond to everyone.
  • You might hear from me, so by giving me contact information you give me permission to do so.
  • This is not intended to provide specific solutions for your computer (although if there is one, I will certainly share it!).  If you are having a problem, I urge you to contact your computer manufacturer or system builder to obtain support.

If you want to maximize the usefulness of your report, include the following information:

  1. A concise, one-line description of the issue.
  2. Repro steps (what it takes for me to get the problem to happen to my box).  If it's a problem with Live TV, make sure you include the steps you normally take to get there (i.e. pressing Live TV on the remote control vs. going through the Start Menu, My TV and Live TV).
  3. Expected results.  What did you expect to happen?
  4. Observed results.  What actually happened?
  5. Hardware configuration, even better if you include a link to an MCDiag dump.  You can get MCDiag as part of the Windows XP Media Center Diagnostics Kit 3.0.  MCDiag will collect all the information from the default settings, so there's no need to check any of the boxes (when you run it you'll see what I mean).
  6. Other media-related software installed on the box, for example non-Microsoft codecs (like DIVX, mmswitch), DVD burning applications, etc.

Thanks, and I look forward to your feedback!
