devCouncil NYC This Thursday: Robert Holmes on MOSS 2007

After taking the month of February off, devCouncil is back!  This Thursday, March 15th, is the March devCouncil in NYC from 1-5pm.  Immediately following the devCouncil is the monthly meeting of the NYC .NET Developers Group from 6-8pm.

This month's devCouncil topic is Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.  Joining us all the way from Vermont this month will be Robert W Holmes.  Robert will discuss the various ways to customize SharePoint from a developer’s perspective.  Robert recently spoke on MOSS 2007 at Code Camp NYC II.

The devCouncil will meet from 1-5pm at the Microsoft NYC office.  Please register here to attend .

Here's the line-up:

1:00 - 2:45 - The afternoon will start at looking at ways to modify SharePoint sites by writing and deploying xml. We will then go on to looking at some ways to write code to do such things as respond to events, provision sites, etc. After that we will take a deep look at the WSS and MOSS object models. The first part of the afternoon will end with a brief introduction to what may be two of the killer apps of MOSS from a development perspective: Features and Solutions.

3:00 - 5:00 - After a short break we will explore Features and Solutions at a deep level with a look at some possible applications. Then there will be an exploration of what may be the other killer app for MOSS: worfkflow. We will show some possible scenarios that would require custom workflows and solutions to those problems. Finally we will bring it all together and answer some questions that arise during the course of the afternoon.

After the devCouncil, you are welcome to stick around for the NYC .NET Developers group meeting from 6-8pm, where pizza will be served for its attendees.

6:00 - 8:00 - Jim Williams from Microsoft Consulting Services will present an introduction to Grid Computing with Digipede Software. Microsoft has released its Compute Cluster product for grid enabled computing on Windows. A complimentary product, from a Microsoft partner, enables grid computing on Windows for those who prefer an object based and .NET based programming model. This session will introduce the concepts and the Digipede .NET programming model for grid computing.
