p&p "Industrial Strength" Releases

I mentioned in my “catch up” post that the p&p team had a couple of things going on and being released during July.  Getting ‘industrial’, they released three software factories: Web Service, Mobile, and Smart Client.  Here are the details on them:

  • The Web Service Software Factory has officially been released.  After several interim drops, this is the actual 1.0 release. In addition to providing great written and automated guidance on building service-oriented applications with .NET, the Service Factory includes a Reference Implementation which shows three Enterprise Library application blocks (Data, Logging and Exception Handling) in an end-to-end service oriented application. Grab it while it's hot!
  • For all of you mobile developers out there, go check out the new Mobile Client Software Factory.  The Mobile Client Software Factory provides integrated guidance to help architects and developers create line-of-business Windows Mobile applications that interact with back-end systems over networks such as WiFi and GPRS that might be intermittently available.
  • I must have missed this one before I left on parental leave, but in June the Smart Client Software Factory was released.  With the Smart Client Software Factory, architects and developers can quickly incorporate many of the proven practices and patterns of building composite smart client applications. The Smart Client Software Factory provides an integrated set of guidance that assists architects and developers with the process of creating these types of applications.
