Just published the Beta for the VSeWSS to Visual Studio 2010 Upgrade Template

The VSeWSS project upgrade tools for Visual Studio 2010 beta is published here. It is planned to be published as sample code for the release of Visual Studio 2010.

This is an additional project template for Visual Studio 2010. When you create a project from this template it will ask for an existing Visual Studio 2008 extensions for Windows SharePoint Services (VSeWSS) project. When you select the previous project it will create a brand new Visual Studio 2010 project that uses the new SharePoint 2010 project templates which are built into Visual Studio 2010.

Please review the README for the tool to get the best use from it. It should upgrade projects created with VSeWSS v1.1, v1.2 and v1.3 March CTP. The project must already have been compiled using the previous version of Visual Studio. You cannot use the VSeWSS project templates with Visual Studio 2010 so this upgrade project template is the best way to migrate your VSeWSS project to Visual Studio 2010 and SharePoint 2010.

Please send me feedback about this tool through my blog or at the MSDN Forums so that we can improve it for the final release.

  1. This is great news!  We are currently working on a WCM web project and all of our solution packages have been generated using VSeWSS 1.3 March CTP.  However, I am still wondering if there will be a final release for VSeWSS 1.3.  If you have any new information on this please let me know.  Thanks.

  2. This looks very promising!

Giving it a go and will hook you up with some feedback when I’m done

    Hi Paul,

We have installed VS 2010 Beta 2 / SharePoint Foundation on Server 2008 R2 and when I install "VSeWSS to Visual Studio 2010 Upgrade Template" on the server it successfullly installed but in VS 2010 Beta 2 under SharePoint 2010 folder I am not able to see VSeWSS template. Can you please tell me what could be the reason ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Rohit,

Check that you remembered to run DEVENV /installvstemplates as described in the instructions on the download details page.

    Hi Paul,

At the last I got success in installing VSeWSS template. The instructions on the VSeWSS template download page were confusing but I think you changed it and now we got success. I missed to run contained MSI.

Any way thanks a lot for the help.

One suggestion here the instructions on the download page should be something like this:

    – Close down Visual Studio 2010 if it is running

    – Run the installer

    – Run the contained MSI (please find MSI @ C:Program Files (x86)MicrosoftVSeWSS Upgrade)

    – Run DEVENV /installvstemplates from an elevated command prompt (Command Prompt run as Administrator)

    – Review the README which is installed to your All Programs folder under "VSeWSS Upgrade"

    Start Visual Studio 2010

    – Create a new project and choose the VSeWSS Import project template from the SharePoint 2010 folder

    Thanks again for your help.

    Kind regards,
