Map Point Hello World Sample for New Zealand Maps

If you would like to try out the Map Point web service with New Zealand mapping data, but need a place to start then this is for you.  Greg Cook of Christchurch, New Zealand has written about the shortest possible sample. He's shared it as a sample here.

To use this sample code you will need Visual Studio .NET 2003, and you will also need a Map Point web service account.  You can get a trial account by searching for "MapPoint Web Service Evaluation Account" on this page.  It takes a day or two to get the account so apply now.

Once you have the trial account you plug in the Web Service User ID and Password into Greg's sample code and hit F5.

    Cool!

I had to try this from home (the nannyware at work gutted the zip file), and I learned 2 things: a) the MapPoint WS is surprisingly nippy, which is nice b) Our internet pipe at work has *really* been choked, judging by the response I was getting from there last night with the SDK samples.

This is by the way a good demo in that it demonstrates a couple of useful techniques with a minimum of code, which is not really something that the SDK samples give us.

I’m actually using a 45-day trial account for now: since I don’t have our MSDN subscription number I’ll have to go through the bureaucracy at work to get the 1-year evaluation kicked off (already got the OK from the boss, but that’s only a small part of it.Sigh).
