A few months back we called for Microsoft Student Partner (MSP) nominations. Keeping in consideration the geographic diversity and landscape of the country, we carried out the process of interviewing, evaluating and taking MSPs on-board in three different regions within Pakistan. While hiring process for Karachi & Islamabad’s respective region is to be conclude soon, Lahore went ahead to finalize the process and held Microsoft Student Partner’s orientation session on 22nd August, 2014. This post is intended to put some statistics in comparison and walk you through the process as it might help future MSPs.
The MSP Hiring process officially kicked off for Lahore on 10th July, 2014 and we received a total of 120 applicants for MSPs. 40 of shortlisted candidates were called for interviews. Individuals outside Lahore were interviewed via Phone and those residents of Lahore were called at Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC), Lahore for in-person interviews. During interview, the technical and business skills were evaluated by entire MIC Team to ensure quality. The process was finalized by 14th August, 2014 and selected 23 MSPs (20 male, 3 females) were called for orientation on 22nd August, 2014, held at MIC, Lahore.
The orientation session lasted for around two hours during which each individual introduced him/herself and respective university. We also invited former MSPs to introduce themselves to ensure peers get familiar with each other. Zaigham Ikram Butt (MIC Lead) led the process and briefed about MIC core team and also briefed MSPs of the evaluation criteria and assigned new tasks to individual MSP. The diversity of MSPS in terms of universities and respective cities is noteworthy as we witnessed individuals from Lahore, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Multan and all the way to Dera Ismail Khan.
