How the idea of the Prayer Reminder came to you?
I always wanted to develop applications that could be useful to people, all the years spent in worldly education indebted me to develop one religious application aswell. In the early days of Windows 8 Store, I hardly found any good quality free “Prayer Reminder” applications. That’s when I developed “Prayer Reminder” and had it available in 37 different languages.
Why you decided to implement this idea specifically on Windows8?
Windows 8 Platform seemed quite promising and as soon as I heard the news that development now supports Native HTML5 Applications on Windows 8 there was no second thought then. The future of HTML5 is bright and I’m glad that Windows 8 supports its development in a very unique style introducing and diving deep into the flat design theory. The change was beautiful & stunning.
What resources on Microsoft or community side you found most helpful while working on the app? Could you please take us on a quick tour to understand your application better?
Other than the very helpful designing and control guidelines, I loved the one written on using Multilingual App Toolkit . And indeed, the many seminars, workshops & Hackathons arranged locally were very helpful in getting familiar with the new platform of Windows 8.
Well, the Purpose of “Prayer Reminder” is to remind and automatically calculate Prayer timings and register scheduled notifications for it. It has the ability to detect online location and make specific adjustments for each prayer time calculated. There is also a snooze feature for reminding prayers.
The “Prayer Reminder” has an OFFLINE version too, indicating Prayer Times of all 7551 Cities of the world. The latitudes and longitudes of the all the cities are maintained offline so you don’t need an internet connection.
You can also change your location and register prayer timings for other countries.
What are your interests behind technology?
I’m quite passionate about technology and always rejoice the changes in our binary world, though its heart breaking to bid farewell to old technologies.
Our world is quite uncertain most of the time, you learn a technology and next morning you wake up just to know that a better technology replaced it. However the speed in which technology is evolving is beyond imagination and quite apparent too. Who could have thought “Cloud” could be something more than fluffy white vapors floating in air!
Any plans for news apps or projects in general?
Yes, we are currently developing & polishing “Game O Chat”, a social gaming engine, that’d be available on all major platforms including Windows 8 & Windows Phone 8. The project was also declared as National Winner under the “Games” Category in Microsoft Imagine Cup 2013. Other than these we have many other windows phone games in pipeline too.
I also decided to start blogging this summer and made few posts on Nokia Blogs featuring the peaceful beauty of Pakistan, my latest blog is titled as “Pakistan Tour Panorama Shots (Nokia Lumia 920)”.
What would you advise to Developers in the region who also would like to become Pakistan Hero?
I’d advise all senior students to share your knowledge with others; give seminars, arrange workshops & give trainings to junior students so they have a clear direction about our fast changing binary world. Perhaps then, we could soon have many Pakistani Heroes in one big -Microsoft Pakistan Movie!
