We are in New York this week, where the 2011 Imagine Cup finals are taking place. We just ended the first day of competition and time is just flying by!
After regional judging in 14 countries and an online competition, 20 teams have been selected this year to compete in the Embedded Development competition here in New York.
Today the 20 teams have been presenting their projects to a panel of judges from the industry and faculty. We have seen very interesting projects, flying drones meant to help find survivors natural disaster zones, intelligent robots able to learn what their environment looks like, advanced fire and smoke detectors for buildings, enhanced baby monitors meant to reduce new born mortality… all of the projects trying to tackle one or several of the toughest problems we are facing as defined by the UN millennium development goals.
Tonight 15 teams will advance to round 2 where they will get grilled by the judges during a 20 minutes Q&A tomorrow.
Stay tuned to learn who will the 6 teams be that will make it to the grand finals and will get the chance to present onstage during the World Festival of Imagine Cup.
