WinXP SP2, .NET FW 1.1, and BizTalk Server 2004

The Windows XP Service Pack 2 update includes two fixes (breaking fixes?) that will tend to slow down development of BizTalk Server 2004 after SP2 is deployed.

(Windows XP SP2 is available for download now and will be pushed through WindowsUpdate in late August.)

1. There is a critical fix that needs to be applied after application of WinXP SP2 due to a change in the DCOM security model. BizTalk will stop functioning until this fix is applied.

Modify the registry with the instructions below to resolve this issue:

2. WinXP SP2 also includes SP1 for the .NET Framework v1.1 (.NET FW 1.1 SP1). This affects the Business Rules Engine, so you may not notice it immediately if you are not using the BRE. The .NET FW 1.1. SP1 for other platforms will ship separately later, so this fix will probably apply to Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2000 boxes that will have .NET FW 1.1 SP1 applied to them.

Download the hotfix for the rules engine component to resolve this issue:

This hotfix is supported both on the .NET FW 1.1 and the .NET FW 1.1 SP1 so you can install it today if you like.
