Celebrating the Up-and-Comings in the Kiwi Dev Community
Since joining almost four years ago, I’ve seen first-hand how Microsoft is committed to fostering innovation in New Zealand through students and entrepreneurs. An example is Team Tether, formed by three University of Auckland students during the successful Microsoft Student Accelerator programme in 2014, to participate at the Imagine Cup competition.

Tether used Microsoft technologies to create an app and a platform that connects people to work opportunities through social networks. Their solution will enable you to leverage your network to find trustworthy and talented people with the skills you need.

The potential of Tether was recognized by the Imagine Cup New Zealand judges in March, where they won first place, as well as by the Faculty of Science at the University of Auckland, where they won the Spark Entrepreneurship Challenge in May. To top it off, they have just recently been selected as a finalist for the worldwide Imagine Cup finals, happening in Seattle at the end of July. Good luck to the team!

Another great entrepreneurship story is Lightning Lab's, a national startup acceleration programme in New Zealand. Microsoft Ventures is a national partner that provides funds, mentorship, devices, access to Microsoft BizSpark, and more, to the programme.

Lightning Lab has recently had their Auckland classes end with an impressive Demo Day last Thursday, where nine talented teams presented. These startups had huge investor interest from the companies that were following the event! This marks the start of a journey for them, and Microsoft is here to support their success.

A final note: this is my last MSDN Flash editorial from my role at Microsoft New Zealand. I am moving to Microsoft Seattle soon, to focus on Microsoft Azure and the developer frameworks that support it.

Keep being amazing, New Zealand developer community!
