Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 is now free! I’m sure many of you are well aware of this, but I just found out that it was free to the public. WAY COOL! I use this app almost every day here at MS. It is great to be able to run a completely virtualized PC environment that provides total sandboxing / isolation. The new SP1 version supports undo disks which lets you set up your environment, then blow away changes (or save them).
The PC version (as opposed to the Server edition) supports some cool enhancements. Like drag & drop files from within the VPC to the host computer, sound, and easy keyboard shortcuts (like for full screen). I have individual VPCs for DOS v6.22, my Team System Server, developing training classes, specific development environments (like with VS03.NET), to try out new shareware apps (particularly with time bombs), visit questionable websites, etc. Remember, to be legal, you must own a licence to the OS you install inside the VPC.
