What’s the New Name for WCF-based LOB adapters for BizTalk Server 2010?

The first version of the WCF-based LOB adapter pack that was supported with BizTalk Server was called BizTalk Adapter Pack 1.0, even though the individual adapters within the adapter pack had the version number 3.0 (e.g. BizTalk Adapter 3.0 for mySAP Business Suite). Let’s not go into the details of why the adapters were christened that way. Following adapters constituted the BizTalk Adapter Pack 1.0:

  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter 3.0 for mySAP Business Suite
  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter 3.0 for Oracle Database
  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter 3.0 for Siebel eBusiness Applications

Naturally, the second version of the WCF-based LOB adapters for BizTalk Server were called BizTalk Adapter Pack 2.0. This time around the version numbers were removed from the individual adapter names. Following adapters constituted the BizTalk Adapter Pack 2.0:

  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for mySAP Business Suite
  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database
  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for Oracle E-Business Suite
  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for Siebel eBuziness Applications
  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for SQL Server

With BizTalk Server 2010, this naming convention was changed. Earlier versions of BizTalk Adapter Pack were shipped independently of BizTalk Server. With BizTalk Server 2010, the BizTalk Adapter Pack is available on the same installation media as BizTalk Server. Hence the naming convention is also changed to align the Adapter Pack version with the BizTalk Server version. The latest version of the Adapter Pack that is available with BizTalk Server 2010 is BizTalk Adapter Pack 2010. No new adapters are introduced in the latest version of Adapter Pack. However, there have been some feature additions/enhancements and bug fixes to the existing adapters.
