Go XBAP, WPF/E and Big Screen Photos! Aussie Aussie Aussie...
I have been getting a few questions recently about WPF applications.
1) .Net 3 will ship for XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista around Nov when Windows Vista RTM’s - https://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2006/mar06/03-21WindowsVistaDeliveryPR.mspx
a. You can deploy .NET Framework 3.0 Runtime Components V3.0 Beta 2 today by signing a Go-Live License - https://msdn.microsoft.com/winfx/downloads/products/golive/default.aspx
b. We have launched a new community site for .NET Framework 3.0 and the WPF site is at https://wpf.netfx3.com.
2) Right now the WPF comes in two flavours and will only work on a machine running the .NET Framework 3.0 and one of the following OS's (XPSP2, Windows Server 2003, Vista B2, Longhorn Server).
1. Windows .NET Application
2. XAML Browser Application (xbap) - Click Once deployed application that runs sandboxed inside of IE7.

As a sample of something cool that you can do with this stuff Niall Ginsbourg from mobilewares.net in Australia has built an XBAP Flickr viewer for Media Center and the XBOX360 extender… I tried it out yesterday on my TV at home and it rocks!

3. In the future we will be releasing Windows Presentation Foundation Everywhere (WPF/E). WPF/E is a subset of the functionality contained in WPF and will enable you to build rich, interactive experiences that run in major Web browsers on major platforms as well as on mobile devices. The combination of WPF/E and WPF will enable designers and developers to have a consistent development experience across smart clients, Web-based applications, and mobile devices.
