Knowledge Network Update

This new solution (add on to MOSS 2007) for finding people in an organisation truly fascinates me, so today I finally installed the beta clilent (unfortunately not publically available yet as far as I can tell - more info on this topic on the KN Blog) and as I left the office tonight it was busily creating my profile from my email content and IM contacts. Will post back with my findings over the next couple of days. Went to the Unique World party tonight and was discussing the concept with a couple of customers. There is no question that the concept really grabs people's imagination - can't wait to see this become more widely available.

Not sure what I am talking about ? Headlines:

  • Client-server app. Server adds on to MOSS 2007, client is local install
  • Client supports a privacy model where the end users decides which email folders will be scanned for profiling and then lets the agent analyse linguistically your email offline folders. The tool builds a profile about your expertise via the common keywords and phrases you email about, and also looks at who you email to.
  • Client then uploads the profile to a server which aggregates with other profiles to provide a 'find people' service
  • Note however this is an automatically produced profile - doesn't require structure profiling and plays to the importance of 'tacit' knowledge versus more structured.
  • Will be free when released for MOSS 2007 customers.
