AMD to cut jobs

I guess it was inevitable, but after a lot of denial, AMD announced that it would remove 10 percent of its work force by the third quarter of 2008.

For someone who runs AMD machines at home and loved the work they did to bring 64bit computing to the masses ( with the X64 chip architecture - instead of Itanium ) this is a real blow. I am sure that part of the reason was the delay in the quad-core Opteron processor—Barcelona—and its Phenom desktop chips due to erratum within the silicon.

Lets hope that they get back on track ASAP to ensure that this market keeps pushing really hard, and maintains the strong competition.
