Intel pledges 80 cores in five years - time to get out the threading manual

I guess that as I have been discussing for a while, developers are going to have to start getting a whole lot smarter about the way they write applications to make use of the multi-core technologies coming from AMD and Intel.

At IDF last week they announced there “CORE PLEDGE” to the industry with the super fast, power efficient ( meaning less heat ) silicon architectures. This all means that

1) Clock speeds are not going to get any faster as I stated before, so no more speed for single threaded apps.

2) Developer will need to start building parallel based applications if they want to get the most performance out of the next multi-core CPUs.

I am really interested to see which companies are really starting to focus on this next generation wave of CPU and will be able to benefit from it.
