Updated System Requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 Windows Client

The system requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 have been updated in the MSDN Library. In the original version, the section for the Windows client contain misleading information about the supported operating systems. This was a bug in the way that system requirements are gathered and tested, and we have changed the process accordingly. We are fully aware of the confusion that the misleading information about only supporting 64-bit editions has caused.

The Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 Windows client supports both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 8.1, Windows 8, and Windows 7.

As always, the latest version is in the MSDN Library at the following location: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd301054(v=nav.80).aspx.

Best regards,

The NAV UA  team and the NAV Release Management team

    Hello NAV UA team,

the information in msdn are not fully correct, because you need windows 7 with service pack 1. Otherwise you get an error that the operating system is not supported.

    King Regards

    Hello Michael,

What? There is a service pack 1 for Windows 7? What will be next? A new version of Windows?

No, seriously, thanks for alerting us to this! Between us, we have proven that the old process did not work. Our apologies for the confusion, and of course your customers can and should use Windows 7 SP1 and always keep their operating system updated with the monthly security updates from Microsoft.

    Best regards,

    The NAV UA team

    Hello Eva,

my problem was that I get an error than "the operating system is not supported". That's all. As next I look for the system requirements and I find the information that only 64-bit systems are supported. After hours of testing and collecting information I find out that the service pack is the problem and not the windows 7 32-bit operating system.

I think when we get a better error message or a better information of system requirements, we can save much time to gamble about what's wrong.

    King Regards

Would it be advisable to also update to PDF document at http://www.microsoft.com/…/details.aspx ?

  5. navteam says:

    Hello all,

We have published an update to the system requirements at the usual location (msdn.microsoft.com/…/dd301054(v=nav.80).aspx), and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Updating the PDF file is a bit more tricky, so while we attempt to do that, please refer to the MSDN Library.

On the system requirements link provided above, Hard disk space: 30 GB for a NAV 2013 Dev Env seems to be high.  30 MB?

any news concerning a PDF file?

  8. navteam says:

    Hello all,

We are no longer supplying a PDF file with the system requirements because those PDF files are difficult to maintain when requirements change (or are clarified). Please always refer to the online version in the MSDN Library (msdn.microsoft.com/…/dd301054(v=nav.80).aspx).

  9. Arjan Hollebrandse, 4PS says:

For Windows Server 2008R2 x64 you'll need Service Pack 1 as well.

Without SP1 you'll get the same error message: Operating System not supported.

After installing SP1 it works fine

    Kind Regards,

    Arjan Hollebrandse

Do you have any guidance for packaging and deploying this client via SCCM?  I am running into problems whereby the pre-requisites are automatically restarting the PC, and if they're not run as part of the NAV install (specifically .Net 4.5.2) they aren't recognized as installed… any help appreciated

    Hi NAV Team,

The link states; Development Environment Requirements > Hard disk space: 30 GB

    Shouldn't this be 30 MB?

  12. Tan Eng Siong says:

    Hi Nav Team

May we know when Win 10 is certified to be compatible with NAV 2015. Win 10 has been launched in July and now my new customers are inquerying about its compatability with Win 10.

  13. navteam says:

    Hello all,

@Lasitha, you are right that we have a typo in the requirements for the  development environment. The hard disk space should not be those 30 GB. An absolutely minimum is 30MB, though we suggest you allow more space.

@Tan Eng Siong, we will announce here on the blog when we have confirmed that Dynamics NAV 2013, Dynamics NAV 2013 R2, and Dynamics NAV 2015 are compatible with Windows 10. As per our published support matrix, we will confirm this no later than 3 months after the release of Windows 10.
