Community Superheroes in Canada!

Under the banner “Community Superheroes,” 145 exceptional community leaders came together recently for the Canadian 2016 Microsoft Most Valuable Professional and Regional Director Open Day.

“Getting on a plane at 5am often means a long trip away from family on work. Coming to this event is like taking a trip to a not-so-secret second family one is looking forward to seeing each year,” explained Windows Development MVP and RD Colin Melia.

Visual Studio and Development Technologies MVP and RD Richard Campbell agreed: “The Canadian MVP Open Days is one of those rare events where you can spend time with your peers – fellow influencers who care passionately about Microsoft technologies. In our day-to-day work we are often the only one in the room who does what we do. What could be more fun than to connect and explore ideas with this incredibly brilliant, inspirational and diverse group of people?”

This year’s event kicked off with Microsoft Technical Evangelist Lead Tommy Lewis discussing the important role community plays in Microsoft’s future and sharing some of the big initiatives on the horizon. Special guests from GitHub and Microsoft’s small- and mid-size business team delivered breakout sessions, and all sessions were available live stream for community members unable to attend. There also was a HoloLens Demo during lunch presented by Colin and Business Solutions MVP Erik Hougaard.

Participants were celebrated for “using their superpowers to save people every day,” and 11 Canadian MVPs were nominated by their peers to receive the following special recognitions:
