MVP Helps Underprivileged Students in Pakistan

MVP Munir Usman has recently worked closely with Microsoft to help build a Computer Literacy Program (CLP) for the underprivileged students in Pakistan. The program has already reached out to over 200 students in the first year alone, through Microsoft Innovation Centers (MICs).

The CLP program was inspired from Microsoft’s Digital Literacy Program, The Community Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher (MAR) and Microsoft Student2Business programs. In Pakistan, there are a number of students who are unable to get Computer and IT knowledge because they cannot afford expensive computer hardware and software. With the help of the Microsoft Innovation Center, IT Education Society of All Pakistan Memon Federation (APMF) and other local educational NGOs, Munir and Microsoft have started a new Computer Literacy Program in Karachi.

Not only are they giving students free computer education. But, they also plan to give access to computer hardware and possible internship opportunities. For computer hardware, they are working with local hardware vendors to donate refurbished computers from Karachi with Microsoft licensed software. After successful training, the program will list profiles of those students onMicrosoft’s Student2Business website, which brings Microsoft partners on-board to offer them internships in their organisation.

This whole program was initially conceived and launched in conjunction with Mr. Vaqar Khamisani who was the DPE Lead of Microsoft Pakistan. Munir is now working closely with Naveed Bajwa, Talha Mahmood and Haseeb Shaukat from Microsoft Pakistan.

With thanks to MVP Lead Ruari Plint for this contribution.
