Collection of Windows 7 How To Videos to help you get the most from it

In the continuing effort to help you find the information about the additional benefits that Windows 7 brings to the marketplace as well as how to get the most from it, I wanted to share a collection of Windows 7 videos that the Windows Team has posted online in case you had not seen them yet:

  • Expand Searches in Windows 7 - Find out how to expand the search capability of Windows 7 to include not only local data, but external data. This demonstration will cover the creation of a new search connector to an external site and other activities.

  • Protect Data on Removable Storage Devices - Walk through the process of using BitLocker to Go to protect data on removable devices such as USB thumb drives.

  • Windows 7 Image Engineering Using the Windows Automated Installation Kit - Find out how one tool from the Windows 7 Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) can replace multiple tools from previous image maintenance tools. In this demonstration, you’ll learn how to use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool to mount images, add language packs, and install new features—all while the Windows 7 image is offline.

  • Configure AppLocker in Windows 7 - This video will show you how to configure software restrictions in Windows 7 using AppLocker. Get step-by-step guidance on automatically creating AppLocker rules as well as manually configuring those rules.

  • Transfer User Settings with the User State Migration Tool 4.0 - Learn how to transfer settings between a Windows XP machine and a Windows 7 machine using either the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard or the User State Migration Tool (USMT) 4.0.

  • Mitigate Application Issues in Windows 7 Using Shims - Watch a demonstration of how to use the built-in tools in Windows 7 to solve basic application compatibility issues, then how to use the Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) to create a distributable fix. In the video you will see an incompatible application go from not functioning to fully functioning using free tools from Microsoft. You’ll also learn how to deploy the fixes created so that you can use them in an enterprise-wide capacity.

  • Remote User Support in Windows 7 - Learn how to configure and use tools within Windows 7 to enable support of remote users whenever they are not directly connected to your corporate network.

  • Create a Standard Windows 7 Image for OEM Suppliers with the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit - Learn how to use the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010 to create a Windows 7 image that is ready to hand off to your original equipment manufacturer (OEM) suppliers.

  • Get Started with the Encrypting File System in Windows 7 - This demonstration will show you how to configure and use the Encrypting File System (EFS) in Windows 7 from encrypting a file and to providing user access to the file. You’ll also learn how to back up the user certificate to ensure that the files can be used even if the machine needs to be rebuilt.

  • Using PowerCfg in Windows 7 - Find out how to use the Powercfg.exe tool to examine the power usage of a computer, and determine which devices or applications might be stopping it from conserving as much energy as possible. These steps might help you to save money and also to get more life from your laptop battery.

  • Creating Troubleshooting packs for Windows 7 - Walk through the process of using the Troubleshooting Pack designer to create a customized troubleshooting pack for your own environment. Learn how to set trigger events, create custom solutions, and take steps to automatically resolve problems.

  • Get Ready for Windows 7 Deployment with the WAIK - This video will show you how to use the Windows 7 Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) to prepare for an automated deployment of Windows 7.
