Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Volume Activation Planning Guide

One of the many benefits of Volume Licensing for clients is the additional benefits and bits included in the Volume Licensing versions you receive with the Volume Licensing bits. One area where this is very prevalent is in the area of product activation. Volume Activation helps Volume Licensing customers automate and manage the activation process of Volume Licensing media.

On the TechNet site, we have a Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Volume Activation Planning Guide posted which provides information for information technology (IT) professionals whose organizations are planning to deploy Volume Activation versions of the Windows® 7 and Windows Server® 2008 R2 operating systems. Here is an overview of the sections of the guide:

  • Introduction
  • Learn About Product Activation
  • Review Available Activation Models
  • Evaluate Client Connectivity
  • Map Computers to an Activation Method
  • Determine Product Key Needs
  • Determine Monitoring and Reporting Needs
  • Appendix A: Information Sent to Microsoft
  • Appendix B: Licensing Conditions

I hope this information is helpful to many of you as you begin planning your client’s adoption plans for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, which, by the way, is now available to clients with Software Assurance. Thanks to @MSSpringboard for calling this guide out today.
