Making understanding Microsoft Windows License choices easier

Here is a topic that has been discussed numerous times in a variety of different forums and on that people still seem to have questions or misunderstandings about. The topic I am referring to is the Microsoft Windows Desktop Operating System license choice. For instance:

  1. Can you purchase a full Windows Desktop Operating System license through Volume Licensing? (The answer is NO)
  2. Who is responsible for providing support for a pre-installed version of a Microsoft Windows Desktop Operating System? (The answer is the system builder)

These are just a couple examples. Now, I’ve always been a big believer in visual training and learning (do it with pictures), so I am was very happy to see a new tool that was just released to help take the questions out of choosing between the various licensing channels of Microsoft Desktop Operating System licenses and addressing those questions that people have had. This new tool is a visual wheel that you can literally “spin” and see, by licensing program, things like:

  • Typical customer
  • Are initial full Windows Operating System licenses offered?
  • Support
  • Benefits
  • Where to Buy?
  • Are Windows Downgrade Rights Offered?

Click the picture of the wheel below to try it out for yourself:
