Is it true that the second Windows Server license in SBS 2008 Premium can only be used for Terminal Services or SQL Server?

Here’s a question that was raised at a licensing bootcamp recently that I thought I would share the answer with all of you on. The question was:

“Is it true that ONLY TWO ROLES are supported for the 2nd server in Premium Edition, those being for Terminal Services or SQL Server? That is it, no LOB (Line of Business) use (other than in connection with running apps under TS)?”

The answer is, “No, this is not correct. The second Windows Server 2008 Standard shipped as part of SBS 2008 Premium can be used in any way that is in line with standalone Windows Server 2008 Standard use rights, but must be used within the SBS 2008 domain. Thus, LOB apps that don’t use TS functionality can be run on top of it. (Such as ACT and BES, since those were specifically asked in the session)”

I hope this addresses any unnecessary concern over the rights for the second Windows Server 2008 Standard included in the SBS 2008 Premium license.

Thank you and have a wonderful day,
