Can I split the 5 CALs that came with one SBS server off to use with another SBS server?

As you know, Small Business Server (SBS) comes with 5 Client Access Licenses (CALs) when you purchase the server license itself. A question I often see or am asked is, “Can I separate the 5 CALs that come with one SBS Server license and use those 5 CALs with a different SBS Server instead?”

The answer is, “No, they cannot be separated.” The reason for this is, when you purchase the SBS Server license, you are not purchasing a collection of two separate and distinct items (One SBS Server and one SBS 5 CAL pack). What you are purchasing is a single product, which is an SBS Server with 5 CALs built in. Since it is one single item, it cannot be separated, similar to how the components included in a license of Microsoft Office cannot be separated out across multiple machines.
