In several earlier posts, I have talked about the Up-to-date Discount that give you 50% off year one payments through Open Value Subscription if you have qualifying licenses already when starting a new Open Value Subscription for that item. If you look at the Enterprise Product list offered through Open Value Subscription, you will notice two versions of Microsoft Office listed:
- Microsoft Office Professional Plus
- Microsoft Office Small Business
So when trying to determine if you will qualify for the Up-to-date discount or not, here are some things to consider:
- The existing licenses you have to qualify can be OEM, Retail Box (FPP), or Volume Licenses
- The existing licenses you have to qualify need to be like to like or higher to like
What I mean by this is, to qualify for Office Professional Plus Up-to-date discount, you would have to at least have Office Professional or higher (Office Enterprise, Office Ultimate, etc.) already to qualify.
This means that lesser versions of Office, such as Office Small Business, Office Standard, and Office Basic would not qualify for the Up-to-date discount when acquiring Office Professional Plus through Open Value Subscription. Similarly, to qualify for the Up-to-date discount when buying Office Small Business through Open Value Subscription, you would need to own licenses for Office Small Business or higher to qualify. This means that Office Standard and Office Basic would not qualify for the Up-to-date discount for Office Small Business through Open Value Subscription.
So to answer the exact question as posed, no, Microsoft Office Basic does not qualify for the Up-to-date discount in Open Value Subscription because it is not equivalent or higher than any of the Office versions offered through Open Value Subscription.
I have the matrix of what qualifies for the Up-to-date discount for the various Enterprise products through Open Value Subscription posted to my Blog here if you want to see the full list.
