Do I need to buy SBS CALs for every computer with Open Value Subscription if my SBS Server has 5 CALs with it?

Through Open Value Subscription, SBS CALs are one of the Enterprise Products available. With the Enterprise Products, you get the benefit of the company-wide discount, the Up-to-date discount, and the “get it and forget it” purchasing flexibility offered only through Open Value Subscription.

One of the requirements of the Enterprise products through any company-wide licensing program, including Open Value Subscription, is that they do need to be purchased “company-wide,” which means, one per computer in the company. So just like my prior example I gave regarding Office Professional and Office Small Business through Open Value Subscription, you do need to purchase one SBS CAL for every computer in the company through Open Value Subscription even though your SBS Server comes with 5 CALs. Now, we do realize that every SBS 2003 server does come with 5 CALs, so this has been taken into consideration from a pricing perspective through Open Value Subscription. Plus, remember that if you have SBS 2003 or SBS 2000 CALs already, use the up-to-date discount to get the 50% price discount on the first year through Open Value Subscription.

Thank you and have a wonderful day,
