Can I downgrade just the SQL component of my SBS 2003 R2 server license if I have downgrade rights?

I received a follow-up question to my, “If I use downgrade rights, am I stuck at the older version?” post from this weekend. The question I received was:

“I install SBS2003 R2 but I still need to be running SQL2000. I do not want to have to downgrade to SBS2003 SP1, I just want to keep SQL2000 until our LOB app is ready for SQL2005. Can I do this?”

Some of you may recall a resource I created and launched for Partners last year called the “30 in 30.” You can see the launch trailer (sound enabled so turn speakers on) or go directly to the site at: https://www.the30in30.com. This resource was designed to provide Partners with answers to 30 questions each in 30 seconds or less.

The question posed above was one of the top questions being asked when I created this resource and just after the launch of SBS 2003 R2, so if you select question #32 on the “30 in 30” page, the answer is right there in writing and audio, and it is 30 seconds or less. J

Thank you and have a wonderful day,
