Deploying Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager in a Remote Database Configuration

There have been some requests looking for information on deploying Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager using SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition, which is the edition included in Small Business Server 2003 R2. Here is a document that can provide you with that information:

Overview

Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager uses a SQL Server 2005 database for storing its data. By default, configuring Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager with any Outlook profile creates a SQL database on the local computer. Instead of creating a database on the local computer, you can choose to connect to an existing database on a remote server. You can deploy SQL Server 2005 on the remote computer and then create a Business Contact Manager database on that computer. If you use SQL Server 2005 Standard SP1 or SQL Server 2005 Workstation SP1, you can get greater scalability by allowing simultaneous clients using Business Contact Manager for Outlook to connect to the database.
