Yes, a Windows Vista Edition only for Software Assurance customers…

A question came up this weekend at SMB Nation both during my Licensing seminar and in side conversations as well regarding the different editions of Windows Vista and if there is really a Software Assurance only version of Windows Vista, so I thought I would post it here for everyone.

As you may have heard, there are two Vista Editions designed for Small Businesses that you can purchase with new PCs:

            1) Windows Vista Business - Regardless of the size of your organization, Windows Vista Business will help you lower your PC management costs, improve your security, enhance your productivity, and help you stay better connected.

            2) Windows Vista Ultimate - If you want all of the best business features, all of the best mobility features, and all of the best home entertainment features that Windows Vista has to offer, Windows Vista Ultimate is the solution for you. With Windows Vista Ultimate you don't have to compromise.

In addition to these two versions above, there is a version of Windows Vista called Windows Vista Enterprise that only customers with Software Assurance on their Windows Desktop Operating Systems licenses will receive. That’s right, it is EXCLUSIVE to Software Assurance customers only (for instance, those with the Microsoft Small Business Desktop Advantage license will receive Windows Vista Enterprise). So what does Windows Vista Enterprise get you that others don’t get? Here’s a few things:

1) Data Protection with Windows Bitlocker™ Drive Encryption - Windows Vista Enterprise includes Windows BitLocker™ Drive Encryption, a new technology which helps prevent sensitive data and intellectual property from falling into the wrong hands if a computer is lost or stolen. Windows BitLocker uses hardware-based data encryption technology that gives you greater peace of mind knowing that your corporate intellectual property is safer and will remain your strategic asset. Also, since the entire hard drive is encrypted, Windows BitLocker reduces the cost associated with decommissioning old PCs.

2) Additional Licensing Rights to Leverage Virtual PC - You will receive the rights to four additional copies of the operating system so that you can leverage up to four virtual machines in Virtual PC on that PC. This enables you to use the product to its full potential to address application compatibility issues, run a helpdesk, run a training class, and perform software application testing. These additional operating system licensing rights are exclusive to Software Assurance customers.

There are a few more and you can see them HERE.

I am cutting this short because Vlad just called and is stopping by with Susanne at my office, so I’ve got to run.

Thank you and have a wonderful day,
