Making decisions around cloud database services can be daunting when you’ve got many questions.  Today I was having a look online and I ran into a paper authored by Microsoft Gold Partner Scalability Experts and it’s quite good.

In no more than 20 pages, Scalability Experts runs through the basics on Cloud Computing, then goes into more depth on Cloud databases, SQL Azure and Private Cloud.  The section that I found as particularly helpful was the checklist, or the “Ten things to consider when evaluating a Cloud platform.”  I think that the paper does a good job at evaluating the pros and cons of data management in the Cloud.

Take a look at it, it may be of use to you.  Scalability Experts also has a collection of other papers discussing similar and different topics should that be more suitable for your needs.
