In this presentation, we will drive hard to clarify this process by explaining how to set up, troubleshoot, and further optimize IIS 6.0 remote server installations. IIS 6.0 introduces two methods of UNC hosting; the first enables IIS to send the browser’s credentials to the remote UNC server, and the second gives IIS the ability to store these credentials in the IIS metabase for quick retrieval and use. Although there are some password expiration risks associated with this second UNC hosting method, it offers administrators the ability to elevate privileges without requiring them to have knowledge of how those privileges interact with authentication.

We will walk through code and see how to programmatically send e-mail and upload files. A perfect example of the issue would be the choice of data provider you need for certain functionality. The project currently uses a particular source for the data, but the next version will be using something else. The Provider Model used by ASP.NET allows us to switch out or extend functionality of the previous API with ease. Because the model is programmed against using an abstract base API, the developer does not have to worry about what the derived class is, but how it will be implemented.
