Launch 2008 issue of MSDN Magazine now online

The Launch 2008 issue of MSDN Magazine is now available online at https://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/08/LA/.

As you can probably guess from the name, this issue highlights the launch of Visual Studio 2008 and the .NET Framework 3.5.

In our lead article (Mobile WCF: Write an IM App with the .NET Compact Framework), Andrew Arnott builds a mobile IM app using the subset of WCF functionality provided by the .NET Compact Framework 3.5.

Mike Volodarsky introduces you to the IIS 7.0 extensibility model by walking through the shared source Response Modification project (IIS 7.0: Build Web Server Solutions with End-To-End Extensibility).

Steve Fox demonstrates how Visual Studio Tools for Office 3.0 can help you develop Microsoft Outlook customizations (VSTO 3.0: Developing Office Business Apps with Visual Studio 2008).

We also show you how to apply test-driven development to your database projects and how F# lets you use functional programming techniques in the .NET Framework.

In the columns we take a look at Silverlight tips, tricks, and best practices and services enhancements in Windows Server 2008. Dr. James McCaffrey covers custom test automation with Visual Studio Team System and Brian Randell completes his Team Foundation Server add-in for Word.

There's much more in the issue, and I'll be blogging about these and other articles throughout the month.

As usual, the issue is available online in 11 languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.

Enjoy!
