Windows Server Virtualization

Windows Server virtualization provides a robust, scalable platform that allows you to virtualize workloads that previously required physical hardware to achieve desired performance results.

Windows Server virtualization is a feature of Server 2008, and is installed as an operating system role.

Did you know that our virtualization requires an x64 edition operating system?  The server virtualization role will not be available on 32-bit editions of Server 2008.

Also, you have to consider your hardware. Server virtualization requires that the host CPU (processor) support hardware assisted virtualization.  Currently, hardware assisted virtualization is available on select AMD and Intel CPU's.

Why you ask? Well, x64 operating systems offer increased performance and scalability which are required for running high performance virtual workloads, such as those that require large amounts of memory. We want to make good on those promises.
