Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Releases…

A couple weeks ago Microsoft silently announced the availability of OCS 2007 R2. If you are following the communication space, this is a very significant release for Microsoft. I personally believe that Unified Communications is the next wave in telecommunications. It's as significant an invention as the Telephone itself. Come to think of it, not much has changed the way we communicate using a telephone. Apart from the form factor, and going wireless it still is a push and pull method of communicating. Apple proved from a consumer perspective that we are at a cusp of marrying software and telecommunications. I need not stress about what makes the iPhone, iPhone! People no longer want to just communicate but they want to be smart about it.

Microsoft Unified communications (UC) is doing just that - Marrying software and telco together! In doing so, it's opening a huge market for customizations and applications that best be known to all the developers out there. No one imagined, the iFart application or the iBeer application to be a best seller app...I bet with opening up the platform for UC and empowering developers across the world to write applications, enterprises will see a surge in applications that will make their employees more productive.
