11-10-1988: Hello Dave Cutler…

History's awesome! I was just reading MS News our internal publication and saw that 20 years ago, we hired David Cutler the father of Windows NT and most of everything since then...Here's the actual article,

In the world:

November 15, 1867 —

The first stock ticker debuts in New York City, revolutionizing the workings of the stock market. Using a telegraph and streams of paper tape, up-to-the minute stock prices could transmit information previously delivered by mail or messenger.

November 10, 1969 — The pioneering educational show "Sesame Street" debuts. It would become the most widely viewed children's program in the world, airing in more than 120 countries.

At Microsoft:

November 10, 1988 — Microsoft announces the hiring of veteran operating system designer David Cutler to lead a team developing advanced operating systems software. This team would eventually produce Windows NT.

David, now a senior technical fellow, is shown here with one of the cars he raced in his spare time at speeds as high as 160 miles per hour. In more recent news, David was awarded the 2007 National Medal of Technology by President Bush in September.

And if you haven't read Showstopper - read it now! It's a fascinating book about the story of how Microsoft and Dave Cutler created Windows NT. His favorite phrase for developers who broke the builds was: "Your ass is grass and I'm the lawn mower"
