TechReady Nuggets

Posting has been a bit slow this week as I am at an internal Microsoft event all week called TechReady. I have been meeting with  a ton of folks all around the world and seeing the great stuff we are doing.

Here are some of the more interesting nuggets.

Business Architecture

What is currently known as Microsoft Business Architecture (MSBA) will be renamed to The IT Architecture and Planning (ITAP). Like MSBA this will be offered as a strategic consulting offering from Microsoft Consulting Services.

MSBA Overview

If you want some more information on this topic there are some great resources out on MSDN. Here is some links that may be helpful:

Microsoft ESB Guidance Updates

Expect to see more on our ESB guidance in the coming months as we are coming out of our beta cycles and into RTM mode. There are some things you will need to keep in mind when adopting the ESB Guidance:

  • Supportability - Like Patterns and Practice the ESB Guidance is not supported by Microsoft is is more of a reference architecture in the sense that it is one way of doing things and is not built into the BizTalk platform.
  • Functionality - For ESB governance it is recommended you use a preferred partner for this such as Amberpoint or SOA Governance. Personally I like SOA Governance a bit better.
  • Evolution - There seems to be a bit of momentum around this in the CodePlex community. Expect the guidance to mature and change at a steady pace. Even though the P&P teams are not saying this. I would expect that as more and more folks adopt, new challenges and opportunities will rise to augment an or modify the guidance.

Enterprise Authorization Modeling

Microsoft is building some great guidance for an enterprise authorization strategy. It makes the case for developing an enterprise authorization gateway. Discussion touches on some of the enterprise-level requirements and challenges that motivate this approach.
