Code Competitions

I’m a huge sceptic when it comes to code competitions – perhaps Terrarium has left a permanent impression on me – I think they tend to promise much yet offer little. It’s an easy answer to a difficult problem. The barrier to entry is usually too high for broad appeal (unless you have something very special indeed on offer). [The Terrarium competition coincided with the launch of the .NET Framework 1.0 and required people to build creatures using this new-fangled technology. It was asking a lot]

Anyways, I was very impressed when I saw on Tim’s blog the standard of some of the entries for the Mix 10K Challenge (max 10kb of source / resources in a Silverlight or WPF app). Too late to enter now – the competition’s over! And of course who can forget the submission by NxtGenUG’s very own Richard Costall!

Inspiring stuff by all concerned. Amazing what you can do with only 10K!
