They've Given MikeT a new Laptop

Ye gawds it was about time. I think the keys had nearly worn through on the old one. Trouble is, Mike and hardware don't always get on too well (just ask him about his PhatNoise) and it seems he's already running into trouble. Me, I got a Dell D820 about 3 months ago as both Martin and I were struggling to run pre-built SharePoint VPCs on our existing machines (resulting in a particularly embarrassing experience at an MSDN event @ our London Office when both our machines simply ground to halt having worked happily all day...)

I really like the D820 - it's got a monster 1920x1200 screen, an Intel T7200 Core 2 Duo proc, 4GB of RAM and 180GB of disk space with its 2nd drive installed. I re-built it with 64 bit Vista about a week ago and it was a painless experience. However I'd been hoping to get the full 4GB of RAM as a result (in 32 bit your address space is limited to 4GB and a certain amount of that space has to be reserved for other memory-mapped components - eg the graphics card) but it's not as simple as that. It seems the D820's hardware limits addressable space to 4GB so even though 64 bit Vista allows me to go *much* higher, I still can't get at those pesky 700 or so missing MB...
