Scientific American: Bill Gates talks about "A Robot in Every Home"

Interesting article written by Bill Gates talking about robotics – one of the comments in the article is “Although a few of the domestic robots of tomorrow may resemble the anthropomorphic machines of science fiction, a greater number are likely to be mobile peripheral devices that perform specific household tasks.” – sounds like the Roomba or, if you could consider a non-mobile peripheral that performs specific household tasks then you could also assume that washing machines, microwaves and cookers might also be considered to be robots – perhaps all linked into the home network and controlled through a home automation system (perhaps having it’s UI hosted in Media Center PC or similar).

I’ve always wanted a fridge that connects to the online shopping and re-order my food for me! Less shopping and more TV/Xbox!!

That’ll be the day of true home automation
