Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs "Eiger" Released.

Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs is based on Microsoft Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 2 (SP2) and is designed for companies with a significant number of older Windows PCs that they aren’t ready to replace and that can’t be easily upgraded to Windows XP.

Formerly known by its Eiger code name, Windows Fundamentals gives those PCs some of the security benefits of XP but essentially turns the machines into thin clients, able to run only a few programs locally, with most software needing to run remotely from a server.

More information is available on News.com and on the Microsoft Windows Fundamentals site.

BTW I think we’re planning to have a presentation on “Eiger” at next months WE-DIG meeting.

    Hello Mike!

    i have 2questions here:

    1. Is there any way to modify the components after installation (for example i chose not to install IE and Media components but after a while i need them).

    2. Can you give some information/link about what makes Fundamentals less resource extensive, what is missing, what issues can we expect?

I checked the help files, but haven’t found answers to my questions.

    thanks a lot.
