Singularity : Microsoft Research Operating System

<snip>What would a software platform look like if it was designed from scratch with the primary goal of dependability?</snip> – Take a look at the Microsoft Research web site to get more information on Singularity, this would appear to be a completely managed operating system – the PDF file on the Research site makes for interesting reading.

Would a purely managed operating system be appropriate for your embedded design? – There’s already a good example of a shipping managed operating system, SPOT (Smart Personal Object Technologies, the o/s that runs in MSN Direct watches)

  1. Not only that, but the SPOT’s TinyCLR ships embedded on a single chip — the only API for this chip is managed. Is 100% managed the way of the future?

One day, will native code only be for the dinosaurs? (that should generate some traffic Mike ;-))
