MSN Desktop Search – using for two days, thoughts.

I installed the MSN Desktop Search Beta a couple of days ago, this integrates an outlook search tool ( with a desktop search tool – the integration with outlook is very similar to the LookOut product, the desktop search technology is pretty cool, the application indexes content on your desktop as a background task, and adds an optional toolbar to your application tray (see below).

Typing keywords into the search field displays a list of files that match the name you are looking for, or files that contain the word(s) you are looking for, you an then quickly and easily open the items. I’ve not noticed any performance issues on my Toshiba M200 Tablet PC since installing the MSN Desktop Search Beta – so, at this point it’s all good…

Since I installed MSN Desktop Search, I have DEP Error, that I never have before.

But it’s a very good tools

  2. Mike,

i see a different behaviour. after taking about 3 hours (acer 800 notebook) for building the initial index, it keeps working on the index quite some time – and my machine gets unresponsive…

also, it doesn’t even _find_ all mails. seems its not looking in all of my outlook (express) folders, but only into a subset of them…

at least it doesn’t crash, but i’ve seen more impressive betas from microsoft.

It broke all my Macromedia Flash files that used the LocalConnection object. Once I uninstalled, my Macromedia Flash files worked again. For some reason, the desktop search tool breaks the communication between flash files.
