Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 – WinTV-PVR 250

I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and had some problems with my existing Tuner Card - so I replaced the existing card with a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250 card - The Media Center has been working reasonably well, but once in a while the Cable TV signal would just vanish and Media Center wasn't able to re-sync the signal.

After much head scratching and web searching I found the answer on - I needed to replace the WinTV-PVR 250 drivers, I needed version, these can be downloaded from this site -

After installing the drivers the Media Center sync'd straight away - Thought I would share this just in case anyone else was having similar problems.

I have the same problem but it is really bad. it only displays video for about 15 seconds. I tried those drivers and it still does not work. I called their technical support and they said that they did not have a driver for the 250 that was compatible with MCE 2005. Only a driver for 250MCE that worked. that same card worked fine for me with mce 2004. I did a clean install and I have tried both the NVIDIA and WInDVD decoder. I am using a 2 gig dell machine with just the standard on board Intel graphics. could that be the difference between the 2 setups that is not allowing me to get it to work. please help — I am so close.

I have the same setup and the MCE2005 OS refuses to apply the 250mce drivers to my card.

Everything worked under MCE2004 although it was difficult to get the drivers working even then. I have asked the OEM to help me but so far no dice.

Getting MCE 2005 installed and working was pretty straight forward, Photo’s and Music were very easy, just install the software and everything just worked. Getting "TV" functionality was another matter altogether – finding the right set of WinTV-PVR 250 drivers was the key – also, I needed to swap out the original video card for an nVidia Fx 5700 card, the original HP video card isn’t up to being driven by Media Center 2005.

Im having the similar issue but with ATI cards (Radeon 9600SE and eHome card) I know the drivers and hardware are current and compatible, just having the same problem that I am reading many others are having as well, the picture goes black on live TV after using it for an hour or so, sometimes it will even work longer, currently its going for a record as it has been working for over 5 hours. Sound continues, all other computer functions work and display, but you switch back to live TV and you get sound with a black screen.

    Anyone have a cure?
