Portable Media Center...

I've just got back to Seattle from a trip to Microsoft Research in the UK, the trip over to the UK was good, some interesting movies to watch, some work to do, the time flew by [pun intended]...

The trip back wasn't quite so good, in economy, couldn't sleep, no interesting movies to watch - this is exactly the time I would have liked to have a Portable Media Center - all your photos, all your music, and all your TV shows (recorded on my Media Center PC) - I have a number of other events coming up so have decided to get a Creative Labs Portable Media Center - to get this working I need to have Windows Media 10 on my Media Center, so I decided to upgrade from WM9 to WM10 yesterday.

Interestingly, I also had the "Update for XP SP2" waiting to be installed - the installation for SP2 went smoothly, but when I restarted my Media Center I couldn't watch any TV programs (live or recorded) - I had an error on screen stating that "Components or files needed to watch TV were missing or corrupt" - something in the SP2 upgrade had caused a problem - I don't know whether this was becasue I had installed WM10 before upgrading to SP2... so I uninstalled XP SP2, confirmed that the Media Center was working ok, and then re-installed SP2 - everything worked just fine, so I then installed WM10 - and again, everything was working ok.

So, the next step is to find a Creative Labs Portable Media Center... Once I get one (if I can find one) I will document the setup and "play" experience...

Don't forget to look out for the video on MSDN Channel 9 with Brett Bentsen, the Product Unit Manager for the Portable Media Center...
