News.com – Linux potentially infringes 283 patents.


According to an article on c|net News.com, Linux potentially infringes 283 patents, including 27 held by Microsoft but none that have been validated by court judgments, according to a group that sells insurance to protect those using or selling Linux against intellectual-property litigation.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this turns out…

    I also read this and posted in my blog (http://www.ghostdev.ca/archive/2004/08/02/228.aspx). The insurance company is not going to release the list of infringements because doing so puts Linux in the wrong. According to copyright law, ignorance is bliss.
