Microsoft gearing up to release more open source

Just found this article on eWeek, looks like Microsoft is gearing up to release more code to the open source community.

Check out this Microsoft Blog that discusses why we’re releasing code to the open source community.

  1. Personally, I find the guessing game that everyone plays around "What will Microsoft release as Open Source next?" very entertaining. To be clear, all that is up there right now is speculation. To speculate any further is fun but I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions. For example, if you assume the article is completely off base then you’ll jump to completely different conclusions. Then there’s the speculation that Microsoft isn’t going to release any more code under Open Source.

Like I said, fun game but doesn’t really get you anywhere.

Interestingly, we’ve been releasing source with the Windows CE operating system since the first public version of the O/S and tools, this was released in 1998 – we’ve been releasing additional source with each new release of the product – right now, with Windows CE 5.0 we’re shipping around 2.5 Million lines of Windows CE source.
