For 15 years, Imagine Cup has challenged student developers to further the reach, breadth and effect that technology can have on the world around us. Team ENTy – three computer science students from Romania – rose to that challenge and was crowned the 2016 Imagine Cup Champion last July.
What was their winning secret? They identified a systemic problem that impacted many people and figured out how to solve the issue with an easy-to-use device.
The Imagine Cup challenge
The team saw that the technology used to help ear, nose and throat (ENT) doctors was often outdated and expensive to use. This obstacle could make routine tests unaffordable for patients while hampering the doctor’s ability to provide fast diagnoses and treatments.
To help ENT doctors and patients overcome this issue, ENTy team members developed a wearable device that collected data through three different sensors. Via Microsoft Azure and a simple app, doctors could run tests on the patient and get results right away.
