“There is a premium on effectiveness” – why mobility matters in a clinical environment

In a clinical environment, having the right piece of information at hand at the right moment can make all the difference. Clinicians often don’t have time to run back to a desktop workstation or to wait for a laptop to boot or to fumble with a printed chart every time they need a figure. Effectively providing information at the point of care means letting clinicians use devices that are ready to go at any place and any time.

Novartis recently started deploying Windows 8 tablet devices to its clinical staff. The health research company found the tablets were easy to deploy, ran all of the necessary programs (plus a few new ones) and gave staff the flexibility they need to do their jobs at the highest level possible.

“Mobility has become really essential to effectiveness. You never know when the moment of truth will come, where you will make the difference,” says Abel Archundia, CIO of Novartis’ Sandoz division.
